Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Neary app and the website myneary.com ("Neary", "we", "us") collect, how it is used, and what choices you have. Neary is provided by Sisman by At Apps.

1. Who is responsible
Sisman by At Apps
Kocaeli, Türkiye
Email: info@myneary.com

2. The short version
Neary needs your location to find places near you. It is not used to build an advertising profile of you.
Your favorites and settings stay on your phone. We do not receive them.
Photos and ratings you choose to submit, and location you choose to share live, are sent to our server. Nothing is sent unless you use these features.
We do not sell your personal data.

3. Information we process
3.1 Location
With your permission, Neary reads your device's precise location to search for places nearby, to calculate distances, and to let you share your position. Your coordinates and your search (category or search text) are sent to our place-data providers so that they can return nearby results (see section 5). You can withdraw the location permission at any time in your device settings; without it, nearby search will not work.

3.2 Proximity alerts (background location)
If you create a proximity alert, Neary uses the Android geofencing service so your phone can notify you when you are close to a matching place, even when the app is closed. The comparison between your position and the alert area is done by your device's operating system. You can turn alerts off at any time inside the app or by revoking the background location permission.

3.3 Voice search
If you tap the microphone, Neary uses the speech recognition service of your device (on Android typically provided by Google). Audio is processed by that service under its own privacy policy. Neary receives only the recognized text and does not record or store your audio.

3.4 Favorites, categories and settings
Your favorite places, favorite categories, pinned categories, language, search radius and distance unit are stored locally on your device only.

3.5 Optional Google Drive backup
If you use the backup feature, you sign in with your Google account and Neary saves a backup file of your favorites in the hidden "App Data" area of your own Google Drive. Only Neary can access this area, and Neary cannot see your other Drive files. We do not receive a copy of this backup. You can delete it through your Google account.

3.6 Photos and ratings you contribute
You can add photos of places (taken with your camera) and rate places from 1 to 5 stars. If you do, the photo, the place it belongs to, its category, your rating and the time are stored on our server. Photos and ratings are visible to other Neary users. Please read the content license in our Terms of Use. You can report photos and block contributors; reports are reviewed and content may be removed.

To limit abuse (for example duplicate votes or excessive uploads), Neary generates a random device identifier on your phone when you first use these features. It is not your Android ID, advertising ID or any hardware identifier, and it is replaced when you reinstall the app.

3.7 Live location sharing and Friends
If you start sharing your live location (for example for 1, 3 or 8 hours) or connect with friends or family, Neary sends your location to our server while sharing is active so that the people you have given the link or QR code to can see it. Viewers do not need an account. Sharing stops when you end it or when the chosen time expires. Only share your location with people you trust.

3.8 Sending your location by SMS, WhatsApp, email or other apps
When you use "Send location" or "Share", Neary creates a map link containing your coordinates and hands it to the sharing or messaging app you choose. What happens next is governed by that app and the recipient. Neary does not read your messages.

3.9 Purchases (Premium)
Premium is purchased through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google. We do not receive your payment details; we only learn whether the purchase is active.

3.10 Advertising
The free version may show ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and similar technologies to show ads and measure them. Where required (for example in the European Economic Area and the UK), you will be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice later. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings. Premium removes ads.

3.11 Technical data
When the app or website connects to our server, standard technical data such as IP address, date and time, and request details are processed and may be stored in server logs for security and to keep the service running.

4. Why we process data (legal bases)
Where the GDPR, the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK, Law No. 6698) or similar laws apply: to provide the features you ask for (performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b)); with your consent for location, microphone, notifications, personalized ads and optional features (Art. 6(1)(a)); and for our legitimate interests in security, preventing abuse, moderating content and improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f)).

5. Service providers and third parties
To run Neary we use the following kinds of providers. They process data under their own privacy policies:

Place and map data: OpenStreetMap data via the Overpass API, and Mapbox, LocationIQ and Geoapify. They receive the coordinates and the search term needed to return results, and they see the IP address of the requesting server or device.
Hosting: our server, including the Neary backend and this website, is hosted by IONOS.
Google: speech recognition (on your device), Google Drive (optional backup), Google Play (purchases and distribution) and Google AdMob (ads in the free version).
Navigation and sharing apps: when you open directions in Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, HERE WeGo or another app, the destination is passed to that app, which then applies its own privacy policy.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users, the public, or Neary.

6. How long we keep data
Live location: only while sharing is active and for a short time afterwards, then it is deleted.
Photos and ratings: until they are removed by us (for example after a report) or until you ask us to delete them.
Reports and block entries: as long as needed to protect the community.
Server logs: for a limited time, then deleted.
Data stored only on your device (favorites, settings, device identifier) is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers (for example Google or map-data providers) may process data in countries outside your own, including countries outside the EEA. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), to protect data. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your data protection authority (in Türkiye: the Personal Data Protection Authority, KVKK).

Permissions: you can revoke location, microphone, camera and notification permissions in your device settings.
Delete your contributions: email us and describe the photo or rating (place and approximate date). Because the device identifier is random and not linked to your name, we may ask you for details to find your content.
Other requests: email info@myneary.com.

10. Children
Neary is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age). Children should use Neary only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, especially for photo uploads and location sharing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when we add features. The current version is always available at myneary.com, and the date above shows when it was last changed. For important changes we will also inform you in the app.
